Rue is a nonbinary garment craftsperson who explores artisanship through pre-industrial production methods. Their practice is informed by experimental archaeology, slow fashion, and visible mending. Rue centres their research on East Asian folk textile's relationship to the land and socioeconomic factors surrounding societies. Slow production methods are rooted in rich cultures and stories found all around the world; materials possess spirits of creation and reclamation, of labour and service, of new life and bygone age. Rue is obsessed with pieces made out of necessity, compulsion, and the beauty which springs forth in the face of utilitarianism. Rue believes granular, intentional research is key to cross-pollination across all disciplines.
